Thanks Guys all sorted now. Ended up being a problem with an old OpenVPN
client trying to connect.

Sounds like you're using UDP rather than TCP? Always best to use UDP
with OpenVPN unless you must use TCP for some reason. You can't telnet
to a UDP port.
