I think it comes down to your motherboard. If any of the nics are sharing one pci-e lane, then things would slow down. But if the nics share four (x4) or more lanes, or if each has its own lane, then it won't be slower. As far as reliability - you either trust in technology or you don't. Nicks can fail, but I find its pretty rare.
