I was part of this program last year, and can't stress enough how amazing this show will be!

Please help us spread the word, and come support two great emerging
artists, and the young artists that they've mentored. This will be the
first time most of these young writers have an opportunity to perform in
front of an audience, so please show your support.

Originally conceived and organized by community artists Juliana Pegues
and Tatiana Ormaza for Latina and Asian American teens, the Loft's
Equilibrium: Spoken Word at the Loft series is proud to take the program
into its second year. This year, emerging Spoken Word artists Bobby
Wilson and Tish Jones were mentored by author Alexs Pate, and have been
working with African, African American, and Indigenous young poets from
South and St. Paul Central High schools. This innovative program will
culminate in a final showcase performance on May 19 featuring Bobby and
Tish, with their students doing short opening readings.

This program is made possible by the generous support of The Arts &
Diversity Committee of St. Paul Travelers made available through a grant
to COMPAS.

MORE ON THE FEATURED ARTISTS

Latisha "Tish" Jones is an emerging spoken word artist, activist,
educator, producer, and facilitator (among other things). She was a
member of the 2006 Minnesota Quest for the Voice Youth Slam Team, and
has performed in venues from here to Harlem. Jones is also the founder
and Artistic Director of TruArtSpeaks, a developing nonprofit
organization committed to nurturing youth and community voices while
using arts as a tool for connection, and as a means to create social
change. Jones has performed with, and for, Minneapolis Mosaic, In the
Belly, rtransitions, B-Girl Be, Twin Cities Celebration of Hip Hop,
MNSWA, The Loft, Intermedia Arts, and various schools and community
centers throughout the country.

Bobby Wilson is an Indigenous artist whose talents have been featured
throughout the Twin Cities. He has conducted performance workshops at
Pangea World Theater, Battle Creek School, Center School, and the
American Indian Center, and has set stages ablaze all across Minnesota
as an individual and as a member as such collectives as Making Oral
History, Indian Uprising, and Minneapolis MOSAIC. Currently, he works
serving homeless American Indian youth, and believes the spoken word
mentorship program offers a positive and healthy way to uplift youth in
the community.
