Fellows and Fellow Travelers: Reminder -- special meeting of seminar this Wednesday, July 11, with students of the University of Minnesota's Mellon program. Professor Rachel Schurman (Sociology, University of Minnesota) and I will be leading a discussion of "Resistance and Social Movements." Readings are my article, "Neoliberalism: Context for a New Workers' Struggle;" Professor Schurman's "Forging a Global Anti-Biotech Movement;" and Patrick Bond, "Volatile Capitalism and Global Poverty." I have emailed you a set of questions to consider in preparation for class discussion. Emphasis on DISCUSSION. We will meet at 9:30am in the Old Main parking lot. We need one car in addition to mine (Amber? Adam? - please let me know). We will return to campus by 12:30pm. On Thursday evening, July 12, there are two events which ought to interest you, both of them free. I am not available to take you, but ... 1) "Color Theory for the 21st Century: Beyond the Pure" -- Jae Ran Kim, Korean adoptee, poet and essayist, and Bobby Wilson, Native American spoken word artist and poet. Patrick's Cabaret, 3010 Minnehaha Avenue, Mpls (right off Lake Street -- 21A bus) 2) "Teen Poetry Slam: Quest for the Voice 2007" -- curated by Sha Cage, local teen poets -- Walker Art Center, 7pm Try to go to one of these... I have group events planned for next W night, July 18 (staged reading of Carlyle Brown's in-process play about Langston Hughes and the McCarthy hearings), and Th night, July 19 (puppet performances by NYC-based Great Small Works company, the most innovative puppetry artists at work in the US today).
