Tune in Mon., Aug. 6, 1:00-2:00 pm, to WBAI, 99.5
FM (also live streaming at www.wbai.org) for the
"Health Action" program. For those who miss the
live show, you can listen to the audio archive or
download the file or podcast after the show ends
-- go to archive.wbai.org, and page down to Mon.
1:00 pm, Health Action.

In the program, Bob Lederer spends the hour
interviewing revolutionary Chinese-American
musician, opera director, and activist Fred Ho
about his inspiring struggle against colon
cancer. Fred discusses how he worked with friends
to develop a strong support network and has
combined chemotherapy, surgery, alternative
treatments, getting off the treadmill, and love
to return to good health.

Fred also discusses the need to think beyond
silver bullet cures because our economic and
production system breeds the disease: "We cannot
cure or get rid of cancer until we 'cure'
capitalism. The two are mutually enhancingŠ as
long as you can sell these new drugs that cost
about $250,000 to take. If that is still
profitable, then eliminating things like
processed foods, pesticides, the industrial
manufacturing of food, the drowning of
electromagnetic radiation we are saturated with,
the dependency on the treadmill, all those things
that set the conditions for the growth of the
cancer, unless we deal with those sorts of
things, there will not be a cure."

This program is a special joint production with
the television show, "The Battle for Progressive
Media," produced and hosted by WBAI "Out-FM"
producer John Riley, on Channel 34, Manhattan
Neighborhood Network. It will air on MNN in two
parts: Saturday, August 25 and Saturday,
September 8, both at 10:30 p.m., and will also
stream live at www.mnn.org. A video file will be
posted on Aug. 25 at www.justiceunity.org.
