Good Thursday Mornin' Yall,

While there is oodles and oodles to read out there on that world wide web (and i have been known to forward more than my fair share along), there are the episodic articles that merit me shouting out that 'this one is a MUST READ!'

That said, I was tickled by the headliner in this week's Black Commentator: "Getting Back to Community Organizing and Building Local Power"
http://www.blackcommentator.com/245/245_cover_community_organizing_jennings_ed_bd_torres.html

As one paragraph put it:

"Community-based organizations in communities of color must return to their original mission on behalf of social justice, advocacy, and political mobilization of residents.

"This call, for greater emphasis on civic and political mobilization on the part of smaller, community based nonprofits, is consistent with political and economic developments today. As the concentration of wealth spirals upward, and government seeks to distance itself from safety-net activities, the collective political voice of neighborhood-based nonprofits becomes crucial for representing the needs of residents and local communities."

As someone recently reminded me, Obama was once a community organizer and will keep working that into his campaign and campaign strategies (god knows that he needs more of that, and less hawkish talking points on bombin Pakistan!). And, amongst a few other unique factors at play, I hope that his campaign continues to integrate local/power-building strategies as the prime orientation of that work. <He aint quite got my endorsement yet. But next Thursday's event in Washington Sq Park could change all that...>

muchlove to you all in these frenetic times,
chad.

P.S. For those of you who don't know Black Commentator, you ought to get on their weekly mailing list of new articles and features. They are one of the most reliable, cutting-edge and hard-hitting journalism collectives/sources on the mighty WWW.
