I wanted to share this with you... Love and Solidarity, Peter

Hi Peter,
I just wanted to give you a heads up that I got interviewed by the Mac Weekly about the Critical Race Theory tutorial that we did the Spring before last (2006). I have heard through friends and comrades that there is some kind of hostile editorial coming out, so I tried to give a measured response in light of the possible scandal that is going to ensue. My basic tack was that I felt that I could have joined the other POC seminar if I had wanted to (which I feel was true), but that the idea of creating safe space made sense to me, and I felt that me and my classmates needed a better grounding in the basics of race and critical theory before we would be ready to attend the other seminar. Sort of like how someone who doesn't speak French wouldn't be ready to attend a high level course on French culture. I also said that the tutorial didn't go very well because students didn't take it very seriously, and that there is a need for a lower-level class on race theory.

Anyway, it seems likely to me that they are going to twist my words, but I wanted to let you know that I did my best and hope things work out.

solidarity,
Erik
