Hey er'body!!! So, we have some exciting activities for tomorrow. Please arrive to class promptly and ready to participate! :)
With that note, here's some food for digestion: 1. Democracy, Socialism, Communism: How are they similar? Contrasting? How have each of the different forms been organized in Algiers, La Paz, and Bali? How have these political ideologies been implemented throughout the liberation movements discussed throughout the three chapters? 2. What are the differences between a military and a militia? Which is more effective long-term? In what ways does the military rise to the top and what factors enable them to maintain this power? Compare and contrast the ways in which the military exercised power within each country. 3. In each of three chapters, Prashad outlines the ?pitfalls? evident in the various movements discussed pertaining to each country. How have these pitfalls made these movements unsuccessful in the long run? What is your vision of a successful social movement? What ideologies and methods of mobilization would work based on social movements mentioned in The Darker Nations and others that you know of? Marinate on that! (That's for you Tinbete!)
