All, In working to fix a couple of issues (I fixed that decompression issue -- there was a slight bug in decompression but a bigger issue in how we handled dynamic packet header lengths), I remembered and started working on a few things to clean up the code base a bit.
I've made my first big commit for this in a new branch on my github. It's not completely finished but I think helps make some good strides in making the code easier to work with.
