I've done a bit of that. Nothing much original, mainly adaptations from
Numerical Recipes. Rebol seems to work fine. One application I tested
(calculating the integral of a function) took about 1.5 as long as Perl.
It may not be tops for raw speed, but it's an excellent environment for
loading up some data and poking at it with various tools.
 
The biggest problem with Rebol for numerical calculation is that the
comparison functions tell you that numbers are equal when they're within the
range of floating-point roundoff error, which is handy sometimes and
sometimes a big nuisance. I've put together a set of workarounds in
%compare.r which is on REBOL.org .
 
Haven't noticed a whole lot of interest in this subject on the list, but I'd
be happy to talk with you more!
