About 1/2 year before I bumped into REBOL, I downloaded the K evaluation version and printed out K's manuals. I've never used K professionally, but after working through the manuals and trying out all the examples, I felt quite comfortable with it. >another lang that weighs in at under 300k for which I have used to >independently verify Koza's Lisp and C results. >I am very excited about kicking Rebol's tires. K and REBOL are extremely different birds. K (a 3rd generation APL descendant: APL - J - K) is very much streamlined for the *analysis* of huge amounts of data and complex data structures. REBOL is more of a general purpose scripting/programming language. K -an interpreted language - is known for the optimized implementation of list related algorithms that can easily outperform handcoded C programs. It does carry a hefty price tag. When I inquired the single user license was in the several ten thousand dollars range. At that price it is certainly out of my league. If I'm not mistaken it is mostly used in financial analysis (banks, insurance companies, stock brokerage houses, mutual funds, data mining ...). I don't think REBOL is as capable when it comes to handling terabytes of data, it's probably not as fast when it comes to manipulating lists and doesn't have the variety of list analysis and manipulation functions. On the other hand K doesn't come close in terms of flexibility, readability, Internet connectivity and wealth of general purpose features. Enjoy, Elan
