REBOL is messaging and scripting language. It helps me to solve small
everyday tasks (we download money info from inet to our IS with /Core
for several months already), I use it with my /Apache server, and as for
/Command - I am already testing communication with parallel port and our
CCD camera software will be created in /View. Just waiting once we well
be able to use /View with /Command. Once modules, tasking, on-demand
component loading are introduced, well, great ... :-)

As for messaging - REBOL supports many protocols (POP3, SMTP, FTP, HTTP
to name a few). They have Holger Kruse as network guru on-board. I
should mention also Sterling here. I am using REBOL because I believe
there is a plan, focus, and dedication - and - the spirit of community.

I can assure you you will see apps as mail/news readers, IRC clients
(yesterday I connected to #amigacs IRC channel just from console in 1
minute, just a few lines of code, it's just question of protocol, and
with REBOL, you can roll-your-own, if you know how - right Jeff? :-).
But also, look at new RT website. Look at solutions section, you should
get the picture. REBOL will surely serve as non-browser related
communication channel, although I would still like to see /Browse
browser's plug-in back on track, as it would be win win for REBOL, to
have their "plug-in" distributed with new Netscape or IE or other
browsers ...

Hmm, comparison to general purpose langueages? Why to compare? The
advantage of REBOL could be it's multiplatform capabilities, small size,
special dialects, openess, while it's disadvantage it's relative
slowness (no ability to compile).

Hope once /View and other promissed REBOL features are available you
will start to see it's appliaction in the real world ...

Sincerely,
-pekr-
