Hi,

My personal recommendation if you're gonna make Techno with a limited budget
is not to blow it all on a 303. Ok they sound more than lovely but the
heavily 303 dominated techno thing has been done now really. 303's still
have a huge use though and are not passed it!

If I was to start again making Techno my approach would be this ...

1. One sequencer (hardware if you wanna play live, s/w if you wanna produce
tracks). Note that you can still produce tracks with a h/w one just not as
well as with S/W but you really do not want to playing live with a S/W
sequencer)

2. A kick arse sampler

3. A powerful polyphonic synth full of variety but not one of the over used
supernova's, access virus types ... something a bit more different sounding
like a Waldorf XT or Waldorf Q - they do great crunching digital techno
noises

4. A nice analogue synth (but one that is at least midi)

If you're hard up on the cash then you could get a Waldorf Q to do (3) and
(4) as it has two sections to it I believe ... a wave table based synth for
crunching noises, and an analogoue modelling section for those warm analogue
synth lines (you can do 303 style noises with this bit) ...

An alternative to all of those things is to buy it all in one box - the
Yamaha Rs7000 - costs about 1000 pounds sterling. Does the lot, hardware
sequencer, drums, synths and a kick arse sampler. And when you buy new
sythns it can control all those too - I've got one - its lovely!

Cheers!

Andy

My Name is Steve Strawberry and i am just about to set up a little studio so
i can create my own style of techno music.
I have the chances of getting a tb303 which is very expensive for me to get,
I have heard the 303 only on records and have never used one.
I love the sound a great deal and i would want to use a 303 to create much
deeper bass sounds rather then high pitch acid techno riffs, is the 303
still in you opionion the right tool for my needs..

cheers Strawberry......
