Surely a sampler is just a means of changing the source sound of a synthesiser to be whatever sound that can be recorded.Technically it's still a synthesiser so I don't reckon it's fair to say that it's only used to immitate other peoples sounds, I would say it's a tool for increasing the possibility of sound to your track/composition etc.

Samplers are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Using a sampler has
nothing to do with being original or unoriginal, anybody can copy any
synthline, or bassline or drum beat, you don't need a sampler to be
"unoriginal" jaybird, nor to copy other peoples sounds, beside that's what
house and techno have always been about.....like say maybe "gettin a groove
on", not always about being original, besides what's a DJ do anyway but
steal other people's sounds??.........And how LIVE is letting a bunch of
pre-programed sequences run while twisting some knobs, and applying some
effects anyway ?? I'm not out to offend or criticize, just an opinion.
