I actually got a similar message (message awaiting acceptance) yesterday. I acted on the message sent to the list, and within an hour (I guess actually much sooner, like 10 minutes) got another message that there is a message awaiting action. I checked the admin panel again, and there was nothing.
Could it be that there is some delay with notifications?
