You want to design for print, then design for print. It's not the same
as skiing, and it's not the same as web design.
Yes you can, but - unlike print - users can and will change the
size of the text, resize their windows, change resolution, etc
Good design takes these different situations into account and
tries to find a solution that works at least acceptably in those
cases.
Users can also change that font you agonized over ;-)
It's a tool, not a rule.
It's the nature of the medium.
It is, which makes me wonder why this discussion exists on a list
supposedly inhabited by people passionate about web standards.
Incidentally, I agree (mostly) with Joseph.
