Donna,
Probably, the wisest thing to do would be to install IE7 right now, in
order to be able to test with it and prepare yourself and your pages in
advance, and install IE6 as a standalone. This is probably the wisest
but I won't do it: I simply do not trust Microsoft enough to install any
of their beta software -- I rather be with the standalones! Therefore,
I can not say anything about the IE6 standalone, because I've not tried
it myself, but I expect that it works more or less the same way the
others did.
Right now, I work with XP SP2 (home edition, sigh!) and IE6. I have IE3,
IE4, IE5 and IE5.5, all as standalone versions. I installed them from
the evolt.org packages and I perfected them with the changes proposed by
Manfred Staudinger in his article "Taming Your Multiple IE Standalones
<http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/multiIE.html>". I've also
installed the Jon Galloway's IE7 Standalone Launcher
<http://weblogs.asp.net/jgalloway/archive/2006/07/26/IE7-Standalone-_2800_Updated-for-IE7-Beta-3_2900_.aspx>.
As it "conflicted" with the other standalones perception of conditional
comments, I modified it slightly as I describe in my own blog
<http://castelosnoar.com/cna_blog/archives/38>. That's it. I hope to
survive happily till IE7 gets out of beta state and then, maybe, I'll
install it.
Cheers,
Roberto

my "plan" is to just wait to get IE7 until its ready via regular
updating download. (in the meantime, i'm in a browsercam pool and can
check IE7 there). Then, install IE6 as a standalone. I think the
last one from here http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/standalone
seems to most likely. wonder if anyone has any opinion on my "plan"
and/or choice of download? and does anyone know if this IE6
standalone works essentially the way the earlier ones do?
