first, i would like to apologize to the list for my obsessive behavior dealing with svg files for the past several days. second, i would like to apologize for flaming firefox in my frustration. third, i would like to apologize to matthew for getting on his last nerve.

the pointed questions:
1. does ie6 not recognize z-indexing; and if it does, how do i make it respond?

2. i was baffled by the message in ie6 and mozilla.13 that there was an unrecognizable doctype. can someone explain why this appeared for these two browsers and not in firefox or opera?

3. a follow-up to the above question. if mozilla.13 recorded an unrecognizable doctype, could that be a reason for it not recognizing the z-indexing in the css?

i would like to thank all of you who assisted me with links to articles, checking my html and css, posting the svg page when i was trying to figure out the .htaccess problem and the svg rendering problem and for the thought provoking comments along the way. i really do appreciate the effort.

regards,
dwain
