3000px is just your lucky number is it? or it must be at least 30000px to make IE works?

There's no way around that one. You'll have to position the
background-images relative to 'top left' - at least in IE, and just make
it look (somewhat) right.

Another minor addition for IE...

.tabs {height: 1%;}


...as a 'hasLayout' trigger to make those elements expand properly.

Don't see any difference without this addition. Guess it's no harm to putting there.
