If you are placing this between two words within the H3 then I can see
little wrong technically - if it is at the end of the text of the H3
then you should make use of some kind of CSS margin.

There was a debate (here?) very recently about whether there was any
valid use for BR's within a P, and opinion was divided, but I don't
recall there being a clear winner. I would think the same applies to
headings - it might be better to constrain the width of the element so
that it breaks naturally?
