Sadly, Professor Wesch didn't mention accessiblity once.

To the average user (as if there actually were such a person), accessibility boils down to whether a site works, in which case it's taken for granted, or it doesn't, in which case they will leave in disgust. For those with special needs it's different of course. Unfortunately the thought given by the population at large to those with special needs is probably limited to irritation at not being able to use handicapped parking when the lot is full. While I'm sure everyone on this list is committed to accessibility, we are a minority, and I'm sure we all have our war stories of battles lost. But it improves bit by bit, both in terms of acceptance of the idea of accessibility, and the tools to make it happen.

Well, of course! For any field at all you will find people who are not practitioners and have varying depths of knowledge. Hey this guy's an anthropologist! And one of his points is that content creation for the web is increasingly independent of the technology of presentation. Also "knowing about" isn't the same as "knowing" (thankfully, or most of us wouldn't be earning a living!), and in fact he may know about XHTML, CSS, perhaps even more arcane web technologies, but didn't feel it was germane to this particular presentation.
