mark: wonderful!! I could hear her giggling in the background, and
you as well!!!

What a poignant contrast between that sweet innocence and the
ugliness of national pride.

Bruce:
Or, for that matter, pride of
any kind  -- out of the mouths
of babes, "and a little child
shall lead them."  What's your
granddaughter's name, Marilyn,
if I may ask?

gv: why do we react? Consider
that for every antagonistic
and opinionated message posted in this forum, there are
innumerable contentious responses.

Marilyn:   Are "we" (which includes the "I") just aware of
the of these 'antagonistic' and 'opinionated' messages
or do "we" judge and condemn them--another
reaction to a reaction?

I watched the news this morning about the conflict in Belfast.
There were some parents (Catholic ones) walking their children
to school through the protestant section.  The protestants
were throwing things and hurling insults, and a pipe bomb
went off;  the children were crying and screaming.
The Catholics do not see there is violence because
they "are" Catholic.  The protestants do not see there is violence
because they "are" protestant.  Each side thinks the other should
accept them as they are.  Neither side is willing to give up "being"
something--"Catholic" or "protestant."    Everybody can understand
the reason for the violence, but nobody accepts the responsibility.

You can do whatever you will.  My job is to see clearly what it
is that I do.

gv: the proof is in the pudding. Ridicule and name-calling and
irritable contentious behavior is not sweet innocence is it? This
has nothing to do with what is yours or mine or Som's etc.
