Andreas, is more forgiving than the one on FreeBSD 4.5. I have an
extremely simple diff that fixes this issue. Not that I've figured this
out, I think I can move ahead with replacing Courier.

Thanks. It was the result of realizing that LIST was working fine, if I specified a folder name (LIST "" INBOX), but not if I was using wildcards. Then it was just a matter of figuring out where it was dropping out.
