I don't know whether this is a BINC problem, or a MUA problem, but many
operations seem very slow. I'm running the latest BINC version in Debian
testing - the package revision is 1.1.8-1.

Examples of dog slow operations include deleting messages. Regardless of the
number selected, I get about 1 done per second. Updating mail folders is
also quite slow, ticking up the message count a bit faster than for deleting,
probably 1.5-2 messages per second.

All these times are with a SSL session across a 100Mbit link. The server is a
233MHz PII with 192MB RAM (unloaded) and the client is currently KMail 1.5.2
running on a dual Celeron 400 w/ 384MB RAM (equally unloaded). Other
clients, such as Balsa and Sylpheed are equally slow.

Also, accessing the IMAP with Squirrelmail is a fairly slow proposition - even
when done on the little intranet here (100Mbit). Some message on the
Squirrelmail mailing list says that enabling server-side sorting helps out a
lot, but when I did that nothing seemed to work at all. This leads me to one
question about sorting (part of the speed problem with Squirrelmail) - does
BINC support the SORT command?

Basically, I'd really love to use BINC but can't figure out why it's so
doggone slow! Across a slower network (congestion) at work using a Microsoft
server response times seem much faster. Can anyone help me?

Cheers.
chris.
