That's a pretty old version :-). Do the logs give any more hints? This usually happens if some files in the Maildir could not be deleted, for instance if root has been in there and left something around, or if the write flags are missing from some messages. The delete is then aborted, and the status is undefined. The actual cause of the error should be reported in the logs, but I'm not sure if this applies to the 1.0.25 version.
