There has been some work on MySQL checkpassword support, although I never 
tested it myself. Here's a link to a download page where patches for 
stock checkpassword are available:

It might be interesting to add to the Binc project a sort of "framework"  
that makes it easy to write checkpassword authenticators for different
languages. We could have scripts for bash, perl, python and code for c or
c++ bundled, with "have your stuff return true or false _here_" :-).
