Andy,

OK, here we go:

At 00:07 I clicked on the "INBOX"es in Opera for IMAP servers connected to Courier, bincIMAP with a Maildir++ depot and bincIMAP with an IMAPdir depot.

At 00:10 I telneted into the imap port of imapdir.instantiated, sent a '. STATUS Test (MESSAGES UIDNEXT RECENT)' and got a '* STATUS "Test" (MESSAGES 0 UIDNEXT 17 RECENT 0)', followed by a '. OK STATUS completed'.

At 00:15 I sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED], which gets delivered to the Test folders for each of the IMAP servers

At 00:17 I resent the '. STATUS Test (MESSAGES UIDNEXT RECENT)' in the telnet session and got '* STATUS "Test" (MESSAGES 1 UIDNEXT 17 RECENT 0)' followed by a '. OK STATUS completed'; we can see that MESSAGES changed but RECENT did not - is this expected?

At 00:19 I checked for new messages from Opera: got one for Courier, but none for the bincIMAP depots.

At 00:21 I resent the '. STATUS Test (MESSAGES UIDNEXT RECENT)': no change.

At 00:22 I rechecked for new messages from Opera: no change.

At 00:23 I clicked on the "Test" folder for the bincIMAP with IMAPdir depot: the new message now appears.

At 00:24 I resent the '. STATUS Test (MESSAGES UIDNEXT RECENT)' and got a '* STATUS "Test" (MESSAGES 1 UIDNEXT 18 RECENT 0)' followed by a '. OK STATUS completed'; notice that the UIDNEXT has changed, but nothing else.

Logs can be found at:
        http://www.instantiated.ca/binc/opera-Courier-2003-09-17.log
        http://www.instantiated.ca/binc/opera-Maildir-2003-09-17.log

        http://www.instantiated.ca/binc/telnet-IMAPdir-2003-09-17.log

Does the above evidence mean that bincIMAP detects the message, but does not properly update all the relevant flags and counts?

Hope this helps,
Henry

I studied the logs, but couldn't find the reason for this behavior. Testing locally gives me exactly the same results - STATUS always reports the correct UIDNEXT, MESSAGES and RECENT counts, regardless of wether or not the mailbox had been selected already.

I'm thinking that maybe there's something with the format of the message
again, so if you could do this test and show with the output of "find"
what the contents of the test directory are, that would eliminate some
options for me. I would need to see the result of "find" when the message
has reached ".test/new" and equivalent.

Also, it would be excellent if you could have a concurrent connection to
the Binc IMAP account when the new message is not detected, and then issue
a

. STATUS test (MESSAGES UIDNEXT RECENT)

To see if you can notice the new message from your manual check.

Hope this isn't too much bother for you :-).

Andy
