Ok

I'm using bincimap 1.2.2, xinetd 2.3.12 and Redhat 7.3 pro on a e-server
IBM.
I'm assuming if you're using xinetd you're also using syslog for your
logging. The first thing I would try is switch over to using
daemontools/tcpserver/mulitlog for control,connectivity,logging
respectivley. Andy has provided run scripts for this so it's quite easy
to get running. The amoung of overhead you'll save buy not using syslog
along should help alot not to mention dumping the POS that is xinetd.
The other thing you could try first is upgrading to 1.2.3 but as far as
I can remember there wasn't anything in the changelog as far as bug
fixes with what you're describing.
