Have you tried:
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/ssl/include" LDFLAGS="=L/usr/local/ssl/lib" ./configure

Sun/Solaris9 SPARC. i've installed it under the usual place /usr/local/ssl and
have the sunfreeware package installed somewhere else.... bincimap's configure
