Remote work is hardly an option with this account, as this is mainly
backbone/core work where hardware (core switches/firewalls etc..) needs to be
replaced & or reconfigured.

No, not normal/typical, however this is spelled out in my contract/work-order
with client.

“Butt from seat, butt back to seat” is what I charge. If a client asks, I’ll
negotiate travel time to be as low as 50%, but I’ll get paid both ways. Usually,
clients don’t ask. If you aren’t working, and you are driving, you have a lost
opportunity cost. That doesn’t work for me.

That being said, as many of my clients on this list know, I prefer to work
remotely where it isn’t an issue.
J That does require a strong degree of trust.

Subject: [NTSysADM] TOT: Travel time

Hi all,

This is totally off topic (TOT) for MS, but I'm sure many can relate/respond;

I just started doing contractor work for a new provider, and I've just
realized that for travel time they only pay travel time TO THE SITE, not my
return trip and the travel rate is 50% of the hourly rate.

Every trip thus far has been at least 50 miles EACH WAY, (100+ miles round
trip),just the other day I had a 180 mile day.

I'm just wondering, does this sound normal/typical, or does this strike anyone
as "odd"?

Any comments/feedback would be appreciated
