A client is reporting that they are being disconnected from remote desktop
sessions after a varying amount of time, 5~120 minutes. They believe this
started just a few weeks ago and up until then it was working fine.

I've been researching this for the better part of today without getting
anywhere but confirming the RD Gateway settings on the server haven't changed.
Active sessions are not set to be disconnected and inactive sessions after a
minimum of 30 minutes, but as high as 180 minutes.

This article seems to indicate a possible corrupt certificate as they suggest
backup/delete reg keys pertaining to the certificate details and want you to
reboot. I have yet to try this out. Scenario #1 and #3 have been ruled out
already.

A tech onsite also followed this article with no change in results:

2008 R2 SP1 RD Gateway with valid public CA Cert (expires 5/2016).
Client, and resource devices are 7 and 8.1 pro connecting from various internet
providers all exhibit the same behavior.

TermDD event ID 50 is always present in the server event log when the client
gets disconnected, but I see this event occurring for at least the last 3
months.

I'm at a loss, suggestions on where to look next are greatly welcomed.
