In Florida I believe the state has a Minority program in place where a VAR can
register with the Dept of Business Regulation or one of the other agencies. It
has been a while since I was forced to use the list so I would have to dig a
lot to find it. I would almost bet that each state as well as the Feds have a
similar program in place. Later we got forced to a central purchasing
authority which restricted what we could purchase.

Just be warned at least in Florida the list is kind of bogus from my
experience. I found a couple of times a list VAR was actually only registered
in the minorities name but the actual people/person behind the company was not
a minority. The ones I found were female "owned" but actually operated by the
husband/male partner of the listed owner. It would be a good program if it is
actually monitored and checked but the list I dealt with was not.

If you find a good VAR keep them on a short list. Good ones usually are very
helpful about finding other VARs for you, at least from what I remember.

Good luck

Subject: [NTSysADM] Minority owned VAR?
From: [email protected]

Hi everyone, As part of our new procurement process, we need three bids for
everything, including one from a minority owned vendor. Can anyone recommend a
good minority owned VAR in the US? Or a suggestion for even finding one?
Thanks! Eric
