Kernel updates make changes that sometimes require nic driver updates.

You could also nuke out the virtual nic/switch and rebuild it.

Our VMs are running on an IBM BladeCenter kitted out with 3 blades and cluster storage (RAID 5 config). No hardware issues. All other VMs which are using same resources are running fine and without any issues at all. It's just this Windows 2012 VM which is giving me intermittent problems. I might have to restore the VHDs files and bring the server up to date from the daily backups.

What nic cards and have you disabled RSS/TOE/VMQ on the parent nics?

What about his DriverView utility? Have you looked at the loaded
drivers? There shouldn't be too much other than MS stuff on a VM.

Depending on the process, disk writing may have stopped and no
dump or event log entry created. Are there any clues on the
STOP screen as to which process stopped?

Yes, because the Write debugging information is set to
        Automatic memory dump.

Is there a dmp file on the system and have you run it through
        nirsoft's bsod tool?

                Hi all

Lately we have been experiencing a strange issue with
one of our Windows servers. It keeps crashing
                intermittently with a BSOD reporting
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. This seems to be a very generic
error message and have tried researching it on the net
to see what could be causing this.

But no success. This Windows 2012 server is running as
                a VM under Hyper-V R2. I’ve excluded hardware issues
because all our other VMs are working well without any
issues at all. The only difference is that they are
running Windows Server 2008 R2. I cannot understand
why this is happening. Could it be that the OS has
become corrupted due to a MS update? Has anyone
encountered this before? Any further help on this
                would be appreciated.

                TIA

                Pierre
