Good morning,

Is there any real difference between restoring a snapshot of a VM and restoring
an image-based backup in terms of AD? Assume a virtual machine environment.
Say there's an image taken with Acronis, ShadowProtect, (insert VSS image-based
backup product) from within the machine. Is this functionally cause the same
problems that reverting to a snapshot would?

Most of these products restore by booting from an ISO. I don't think doing
that type of restore would cause VM-Generation ID to change, since as far as
the hypervisor is concerned, it's the same VM with a lot of changes written to
it. Is there a way to safely restore from that type of backup?
