Yeah, cant agree on GUI, sorry.

That being said, the upper end Synology devices look like white box servers
running their own software? I am sure that is over generalizing but I'd
probably be tempted to simply stoke up a RHEL box running IET for which I am
very familiar with. I will keep them in mind though.

Thanks,

Most SANs are going to have a good GUI or a poor one. (Frankly, most SAN GUIs
are pretty good these days).

It's not common to see "good CLI" as a highly requested feature in a storage
array, but the Synology devices can be managed okay via SSH. I greatly prefer
the GUI, though, for SAN management.

They are an HP show, however I am open minded but it does make sense. For
example all the sff trays and drives will move from server to san saving them
much money which is key for them.

As far as the software, as I have to use it I would like to have a good
reliable CLI however that appears to be not so common on cheap sans now adays.
I presume I stuck with some web based app. I don't need or expect much at the
1040's price point that is for sure.

Why are you limiting yourself to just HP storage? There are bunch of suitable
storage providers for a shop of your size... What are your expectations of the
storage software?
