We've been using a K1000 in our environment for a few years and I'm still somewhat hit/miss with it. It does some things really well, but suffers on others.
Inventory - Deploy an agent to your hosts (newer versions can also do agent-less inventorying as well). You do get a wealth of information back on your systems that have an agent on them Assets - We don't get too in depth here but it's fairly basic to use Distributions - We push out a lot of software and it's really easy to use and setup managed installations pending you can create a working package Scripting - So/So. We've tried to use scripting and our results were all over the place. Some execute, some don't....some trigger later, some trigger sooner. Trying to troubleshoot information on errors isn't always straight forward. Patching - Once you get used to their patching method, it works pretty good. We've got a 95% success rate on patches we deploy. Service Desk - We don't use this module so I can't comment unfortunately. One of the biggest takeaways if you decide to go this route, is to do the JumpStart training and pay attention on everything regarding Labels. Labels control everything...grouping systems, determining what patches get pushed, distributing software....My initial takeaway; if your labels aren't put together coherently, everything else will become more difficult for you. If you haven't seen it yet, they have a live demo you can visit to get a feel for the UI http://sandbox.kace.com/admin Dave -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kurt Buff Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2015 12:59 PM To: ntsysadm; Patch Management Mailing List Subject: [NTSysADM] Alternatives to K1000? All, We're considering replacing WSUS/WDS with a Kace or other system for OS and app deployment, patching, inventory and possibly helpdesk/remote control. Manager is *not* a fan of spiceworks, so that's out. I'm somewhat aware of labtech - are there any other products that you might recommend?
