On the GFI / Vipre front. I see Maxfocus (was GFIMax) is going away from Vipre
and will be using a BitDefender engine

Heck I remember when Vipre was called Counterspy, then Counterspy Enterprise…

Support staff and all that seem to be the same. There's supposed to be a new
version coming out at the end of the month-ish, and in the Business Premium
version it's supposed to upgrade their 3rd-party patching tool (only available
as part of Business Premium) to keep better track of security patches, rather
than merely being a tool to push out current major revs.

Is GFI Endpoint Security what became of Vipre ? Or is it someone and something

To be fair, J McA no longer owns the product. He claims it deteriorated
rapidly after he sold it.

Likewise for the company that founded the original NTSysAdmin forum. They
developed a state-of-the-art AV product and were constantly introducing new
technology while keeping the footprint small. They sold it to another company
noted for its excellent consumer report (and told its customers). That company
then sold it to another company (NOT notifying its customers). We learned when
we called support and heard all kinds of new rules, hoops to jump through, and
above all no more free 24 hr support. Just what an enterprise product needs,
right?

What is left of the program doesn’t stop squat. Getting it off is like getting
rid of a deep tissue mycosis.

MORAL: If you learn your product is no longer owned by the folks who
developed, think like a rat on a sinking ship!
