Sandys, It’s a much better question than you give him credit for, as I asked the same one here a few weeks ago.
For months, revisions of the WUA update stated the WSUS update was required. That verbiage was dropped in the September update. I wondered if it was on purpose or an oversight. Documentation quality has dipped of late. Bcffldawgs, We tested the WUA agent without the WSUS update specifically for auto upgrade of the WUA clients, which would be bad in our environment, since we have a third party content provider. And we also tested for communication issues between WUA client and WSUS and found none. The issue with WUA was resolved. We have not yet rolled out the WUA update en masse, that is planned, with a pilot (2000 computers) next week. We do not plan to install the WSUS update at this time. Two patches for two different things. If you are deploying a new instance of anything, why wouldn’t you include the latest update for it particularly when it’s a security related update?
