I just recently had to build two new images that include Office 2013, Windows 7 and 8.1, we just upgraded Office. I include of course all the security related patches for Windows and then SP1 for Office 2013. I also include all the redistributables and Silverlight.
I also read it is a good idea to include the MDT settings package into the image and reference this within your TS to get around the TS needing to download the settings package after each reboot. I haven’t yet messed around with this but anything to speed the process up is always a consideration I weigh heavily. I use to have our helpdesk image machines with USB drives that had the entire TS, but kept seeing inconsistences with this unfortunately. Especially with Windows 8.1. It is too bad, this really did speed up the time. But I know I’ll get to playing around with this again because it is a much faster process. And the helpdesk also doesn’t need to wait for a machine to add itself to a collection that has the imaging TS’s available to it. We do, but that’s because we use a B&C with ConfigMgr. We don’t build our image with MDT. No issues here, the build in task cleans it up perfectly. So does anyone put the SCCM client in the image? Been fiddling with that for our labsetup but can’t for the life of me get the client to behave when it pops up in the new machine.. I install using ccmsetup with no sitecode etc Stop ccmexec Delete smscfg.ini Delete the computer certs Do this - wmic /namespace:\\root\ccm\invagt path inventoryActionStatus where InventoryActionID=”{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001}” DELETE /NOINTERACTIVE Then the machine gets sysprepped etc So the new machine gets deployed, and configmgr finds the site in AD, contacts the MP, but then stops dead in it’s tracks.. It's been quite a while since that decision was made, but as I recall it was due to SEP generating unique ID's for each client at the time of install. If we included it in the base image, it confused the management server when it had the 'same' computer checking in with it many times.
