Don't use software inventory, use hardware inventory and query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Works tons better!
[cid:[email protected]] Daniel Ratliff From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Atkinson, Matt T Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2015 12:50 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [mssms] Question regarding software inventory for Internet Explorer Hi All, We've been asked to gather the number of machines running versions of Internet Explorer greater than 11.0.9600.17041, when I check v_GS_SoftwareFile for machines that I know for a fact have been patched and updated to a newer version (manually checked the .exe file properties) they are still showing an old version even though they have recently ran software inventory. If I look at versions outside of the Program Files directory, I do see newer .exe versions being reported in the winsxs directory. Is there something special happening when files get patched that causes the build/subbuild numbers not to be reported correctly? Do we need to change the way we do our reporting to get accurate info down to that level of detail?
