I don't know what you would consider expensive, but when we looked at card 
access 
systems, we found that Isonas was comparatively inexpensive and the most "IT 
friendly" 
for lack of a better word. It's software driven with IP connectivity from the 
reader to the 
management server. The readers are PoE powered, etc. We ordered the the readers 
from a reseller and had a local locksmith handle installing the strikes and 
mounting the 
readers. It's worked well for us.
