If you ask 5 different people within MS I think you'd get 5 different answers.
Having said that I don't think MS is going to slap you with some huge fine for
putting WSUS into the same SQL as ConfigMgr.

Put it on the same box Freddy. Most people do. My understanding is that the
license covers System Center "related" databases. WSUS certainly is that. I'd
also use it for MDT for example.

Subject: [mssms] System Center SQL licensing regarding WSUS DB

Hi all,
Does anyone have a definite answer, preferably backed by a source regarding the
following?

System Center 2012+ comes with SQL licensing whereby you can install a SQL
instance as long as it's used by only System Center products.
Does this exclude the WSUS DB (SUSDB)?

I asked this question on TechNet a few years ago when I was preparing our
environment but didn't get a straight answer so just put it on a separate
server. We are about to upgrade our ConfigMgr server and migrate it to a new
one as well as decommission our old SQL server so it would be nice if I could
place the WSUS SQL DB on the same box as ConfigMgr/WSUS.

Freddy
