If you’ve installed updates from Windows Update (as the GWX updates aren’t
available on WSUS) on Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Pro machines at any point, and
those machines were joined to an Active Directory domain, you wouldn’t have
seen GWX until recently, when this was enabled for domain-joined devices in the
US. That change was discussed here:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/windowsitpro/archive/2016/01/13/making-it-easier-for-small-businesses-to-upgrade-to-windows-10.aspx

You wouldn’t see this on Windows 7 Enterprise or Windows 8.1 Enterprise PCs,
because they aren’t upgradable via Windows Update.

So if you have machines that may have installed updates from WU, are running
Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 Pro, you may want to make sure that the DisableGWX
registry key is set, as indicated in the link below
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351).

Thanks,
-Michael

We are seeing it here on Windows 7 Enterprise. We immediately sent out a
compliance setting to set the registry key to disable it. I hope it works….

We have had a few reports, one of which I saw with my own two eyes having just
looked at this computer yesterday.

It’s our standard Win7 build, nothing has changed. No patches. No new
installs. Domain attached. SCCM managed.
