Welcome Paul, You built that electric motard a few years ago, right? http://www.paulcompton.vispa.com/motorcross.htm
Actully, no. I was recommended as a consultant by one of the EV part suppliers because I had more experience with the Lynch motor. Many people were burning out the Lemco motors because they were treating them like a big series motor or simply miss-using them. The last I hear from Scott (the builder) he'd had quite a nasty road bike accident and was in lots of plaster and his scrap value had gone up. He was planning a new version though.
This is my first serious attempt at a motorcycle, although I've built four cars, one in 10 hours on Scrapheap Challenge http://www.channel4.com/4car/ontv/scrapheap/challenges/04_acdc_dash/ and did a lot of work on Clare Bell's 914 when the Phoenix races were still being held.
Cedric Lynch is a friend of mine and only lives about 25 mile away (although he spends nearly all his time in India these days). He's making motors out there http://www.agnimotors.com/ and I just asked him the other day about pricing; 700GBP plus shipping and taxes with a discount for over 5 units. Not particularly cheap, but it is the original and best. I contacted him recently and Cedric told me the motor can be run at up to 84volt providing rpm is not exceeded (downhill for example). At the constant current rating of 160amp, that's around 16hp at the shaft. He can also reinforce the armature for use up to 6000rpm, but that restricts the cooling somewhat and lowers the current handling. Presumably you could compensate with forced cooling.
I still have a 'Special' sitting on the shelf that Cedric built for me a few years ago before ASMOs parent company kicked him out. Different magnets giving more torque/amp and less rpm/volt and banded for 6000rpm. Output was calculated at around 20hp on 96volt.
