I've got the EM bug, and it's only a dream at the moment, but I'm hoping to
make it a reality in the next year or so.
I'm looking to build a bike that has a 100mph capability and a 100mile
range.
>From what I've read so far, I know they are mutually exclusive with a direct
drive system, and the only way I can think to accomplish this is to keep the
transmission. There are days where I want fast starts and don't need the
range (surface streets), and other days where I need to commute (freeway),
and need the longer range.
I think by keeping the tranny I can get the fun starts in the lower gears,
and get better mileage with the taller gears.
Has anyone done an EM conversion while keeping the tranny? I was looking at
the PERM132 motor as a possible solution, but I'm still scouring the web for
alternative motors. From the battery configurations I've seen, I want to go
with some type of Lithium, and depending on complexity, I'm even toying with
the idea of making a custom lion pak.
Although my dream for a custom battery pak may be compromised by reality and
my wallet. I think building a bike while keeping the tranny might not be out
of the question.
I'm really partial to the Honda CBR600 frame, and I figure I'll be running a
72 or 96volt system.
Any thoughts on this or am I nuts?
Thanks
