It's a pretty plain vanilla ADC. It did not have any nameplate on it that I
recall. It does have 8 brushes (the brushes are the same ones used in the 9"
ADCs, very robust), and is about in the middle as far as armature length. Not
as long as an L91, but longer than the A00-4009 I have on my motorcycle. It
came with the smaller diameter shaft (7/16 I think), but we pressed that out
and put in an L91 shaft. It could easily be used in a motorcycle, but so far
seems to be pushing the truck around fairly well. I do shift through all the
gears, and the Datsun has a very low gear ratio. If I had a beefier
motor/controller combo I probably would not shift at all, just use either 2 or
3 gear. I think the fact that I can put it in a small truck just goes to show
how tough these ADC motors are. I know they generally weigh 25 to 30 pounds
more than an Etek or Lemco, but they are strong motors that you will have a
hard time destroying with a motorcycle. When the truck was still in the body
shop and I had the motor laying on the floor next to it. It was hard for
anyone to believe that it would be able to do the job. It just looked way too
small.
I would strongly encourage anyone that is considering motor choices to get in
touch with Jim Husted and get yourself one of these salvaged forklift motors.
They are terrific. If you want to see what they are capable of just take a
look at what two of these same style motors are doing on the Killacycle.
