Hi Lowell and Shawn (w/ cc to FLEAA D/L), I recent met Dr. Wafa Khalil, a science educator who has for many years been teaching courses on renewable energy, solar and wind, at the Maritime and Science Technology High School, also known as MAST Academy, on Virginia Key in Miami. Dr. Khalil has invited me to bring my Toyota RAV4-EV to MAST Academy's 11th Annual Solar Celebration on Wednesday May 2 from 10am to 2:30pm. In a conversation I had with Wafa last Sunday at the Key Biscayne EarthFest (www.earthfest.us), she told me that she is very interested and would really like to start an EV program at the MAST Academy to convert gasoline cars to electric, but she said that she needs some help from anyone who has experience in setting up a high school EV program. Dr. Khalil is highly knowledgeable and skilled on the electrical side (I'm not sure what her PhD is in, but I suspect probably either physics or electrical engineering), but she said that she does not have much in the way of mechanical skills with things like welding, so that in particular is where she needs some help and advice or referrals.
I told Dr. Khalil that the Florida EAA has just the right people who could help her with that for setting up an EV program at her high school and specifically mentioned Lowell and Shawn to her. I told Wafa that I'd put her in contact with the two of you.
