LEE COUNTY: Students are building a truck that will go 80 mph on the highway without a drop of gasoline. Students at Lee County High Tech Central are rebuilding the truck to run on an electric motor.

The students say when the truck is finished, it will be able to drive up to 60 miles on a single charge.

The electric conversion is just one of several projects aimed at putting students ahead of their competition when they look for a job.

"When they go out there and they get their first electric car in 2012, they're already going to know how the system works because they've already seen one and worked on it from the ground up," said instructor Monte Hamsher,

When the truck is finished later this month, the class will begin creating its own bio-diesel fuel from old vegetable oil.

They say the next goal after that is to start working with hydrogen power.
