Hi Frank, A slight correction on my role within the FLEAA. I was previously the FLEAA's Publicity Director, but that has now been taken over by Andrew Roddy, who is, quite frankly, doing a much better job at it than I ever did. Andrew has done, and is doing, a fantastic job with the media with all the great coverage and exposure he has generated for the FLEAA and electric cars in Florida. Andrew has really stepped it up a quantum leap and is definitely the right person for that role.
As for my participation in the conference, I am expecting to come but am still working on our Tallahassee event the following week. It looks like I am probably going to have one of my Toyota RAV4-EVs transported up to Tallahassee that same week of your conference. I am trying to nail down the exact date of the Tally event today (which will be either March 10th or 11th). It's possible that I can bring my other RAV4-EV up to Melbourne for your conference on March 3-4, but that will require that I have someone in Tally who can accept, receive, and take delivery of my car there that week so that I don't have to be there in Tally myself (if I am going to be in Melbourne). My first thought would be to ask Fran Sullivan-Fahs to do that, but of course she won't be home in Tally, as she will be out on her statewide EVI tour, including in Melbourne on March 3-4. So I have still got some logistics to work out on this, to figure out how I can be in Melbourne on March 3-4 and yet have one of my RAV4-EVs transported to Tally at the same time. I will get back to you as soon as I get this figured out. Florida Tech's Sustainability Conference is important to me, and I am still planning to make every effort to be there. Thanks & best regards, Charles Whalen Florida EAA Delray Beach, FL [email protected] P.S. I expect to post more info about the Tallahassee event later this week. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Leslie" <[email protected]> To: "'FLEAA Mailing List'" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 10:16 AM Subject: [FLEAA] Florida Tech Sustainability Conference website, March 3 & 4 We now have the Florida Tech Sustainability Conference website online at http://411.fit.edu/sustainability/index.php. This will be a good venue to show electric cars; the Detroit Auto Show has many on display. http://411.fit.edu/sustainability/schedule.php has the conference schedule, with the Renewable Energy session on March 4, 2009. 2:00pm - 5:15pm RENEWABLE (SUSTAINABLE) ENERGY Introduction & Directive Comments - Frank Leslie (25) Frank Leslie (Adjunct Prof, Dept of Marine & Environmental Systems, Florida Tech) Florida's Approach to 20% Renewable Energy Transition (26) Frank Jackalone (Senior Field Rep in FL, Sierra Club, Tampa, FL) Energy Solutions (27) Lawrence Maxwell (VP, Florida American Institute of Architects (AIA), Tallahassee, FL) Building Efficiency and Sustainable Design (28) Bill Young (Senior Research Engineer, Florida Solar Energy Center, Cocoa, FL) Emergency Power for Critical Home Items (29) Fran Sullivan-Fahs (Prius PHEV Owner, Florida Electric Auto Assn, Tallahassee, FL) Third Party Conversion to Production Vehicles/Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles (30) Charles Whalen (Publicity Director, Florida Electric Auto Assn, Tallahassee, FL) invited Electric Cars Used In Florida (31) George Maul (Dept Head, Department of Marine & Environmental Systems, Florida Tech) The "Green Ship" - Conservation at Sea The speakers are/will be listed at http://411.fit.edu/sustainability/speakers.php, info still coming in. Comments: It looks like PHEVs and BEVs will be a centerpiece of the Obama Administration. T. Boone Pickens is meeting with President-Elect Obama again to push for compressed natural gas for 18-wheeler tractors saying that carrying batteries for truck loads on board is too heavy to be economical. The gas would be displaced from utilities by new wind energy. Comments?
