Which begs the question, why does the SharePoint Lists service use uppercase attributes?
And how would this effect a strict XHTML doctype which requires all tags and attributes to be in lowercase? Since XML Attributes are case sensitive, it won't match the expected "ID" attribute within the SharePoint Lists service. Check the MSDN doco - all examples are in uppercase.
